DIY Fabric Magnet Board

So, I have been meaning to post this tutorial for a while but because I just moved this week, I just finally got to hang up my magnet board.  Now that it's completely finished and up I though I would share with you how I did it. So stay tuned to figure out how to make this...

What you'll need:
  • Metal board of any size (got mine at Home Depot)
  • Spray Adhesive
  • 1 yard of fabric
  • Buttons
  • Extra strong magnets
1.  I laid the fabric face down on the floor and laid the metal board on top of it.  There was quite a bit of extra fabric surrounding the edges so I cut some off still leaving enough to fold over the board. I made sure I had enough fabric to folder over the board, act just like you are wrapping a gift, make sure to pull the corners tight.

2.  Once I knew how I was going to wrap it I picked up the metal board and sprayed one side all over with the spray adhesive and put that face down onto the fabric again.  I let sit for about thirty minutes so the front could start to dry.

3.  Next I came back and started spraying the edges of the board and the fabric where I would be folding it over.  I folded the fabric for real this time, use extra adhesive spray where you think you need it.  Again be sure you all pulling the fabric tight especially around the corners.  I then let the board sit for a few hours while I moved on to the buttons

4.  Choosing buttons without backs makes this easier, however I couple of mine did have nubs on the back and I just sawed them off.  You can buy individual or bags of buttons at most craft stores.  Then, I used a hot glue gun to glue a magnet to the back of each button.  When letting these dry make sure to space them apart liberally so they do not stick to each other like magnets do.

5.  After everything is dry you are pretty much finished!  Hang it up and put pictures, reminders, art, anything you want on it!

Oh How Pinteresting

Happy hump day everyone!  I confess I have been on Pinterest quite a bit this past week since I've been settled in my new home. Even though I pretty much have no more space left in my room for new furniture or projects, that has not stopped me from looking.  So here are some of my Pinterest favs from the week.

How cozy does this room look?  I one day hope to have the coziest house ever.

Love this look. I'm in need of everything in this outfit.

Don't these look like the most delicious cupcakes you have ever seen? I NEED to make these, my mouth is watering.

My dream wedding

Brown combat boots are definitely on my wishlist for fall. I don't know how I don't have a pair already.

Me Myself and I #2

Today I'm linking up for the second "Me Myself and I" link up party!

1.  What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?
If I knew there was no possible way of me failing?  Move to New York and be the real life Carrie Bradshaw!  Who doesn't want to move to New York, wear fabulous shoes, and ten years later get married to a man with the nickname Big?  But seriously, when I was younger I thought if I just moved to Manhattan my life would immediately be like that.  Then I got older and realized the only real estate I would ever be able to afford in Manhattan would be a one bedroom one bath apartment in a four story walk up, which I would share with five other girls.  That does not sound glamours at all. I wouldn't have enough money left to even buy half of a Manolo Blahnik.

2.  If you had only six months left to live what would you do with the time?
Easy, travel and shop. I would do some major shopping in places like Paris, London, and Milan.  I would visit every piece of art work I have ever wanted to see.  A week of that time I would spend just in the Louvre. It would be perfect.

3.  If a front page news article was written on you what would the headline be?
"A La Jolla man clings to life after being viciously attacked by a pack of wild dogs in an abandoned pool."

Please someone tell me they got that joke.

4.  What is your biggest pet peeve?
I hate feeling like people are pressuring me into things after I have clearly said no.  I realize a lot of people probably hate this, I don't know anyone that would like it but this seriously bothers me more than most things.  As in, "Hey Kris try this food." "No thanks I don't really like that food." "But just try it." MY GOD! I'm almost 22 I know what I like and don't like. I'm not telling you that you cannot eat it, just stop trying to feed it to me.  The same thing when someone tries to get me to go somewhere or see and movie after I have already clearly stated that I would rather not go to the place or see that movie. The worst one is being pressured to spend money after I have said I do not want to. I HATE when I say I cannot spend money and then the next day the same person I told that to asks me to do something ridiculously expensive. Am I not being clear or something?

Sorry for that short rant, but that's my pet peeve.

5.  What is your favorite chick flick movie?
I love myself a good chick flick. Especially on a rainy day with a cup of coffee. I LOVE the "Sex In The City" movie (the first one) I could watch that all day long. I also love "Under the Tuscan Sun," "Bridesmaids," "The Devil Wears Prada," and "Love Actually." Just to name a few.

I am loving this link up! Can't wait to learn a little bit more about all of you!

Back to School Style

We all know the inevitable is approaching, there is no more hiding, school is starting my friends and you better be prepared.  I start school again a week from today and I am half excited and half dreading it.  I'm excited to get back into a routine and of course be at a new school, however, I know a couple weeks in I will be counting down to winter break.  Now, I don't know about the rest of you but a new semester always makes me want new stuff!  I have to fight the need to shop for a new wardrobe every semester.  That doesn't stop me from lusting over things online though.  Here is some back to school style that I hope to acquire this semester, after I find a job of course.

1.  2.  3.  4.  5.  6.  7.  8.

What are your must haves when you start back to school?  Or for just fall in general?
Also, I am all moved into my new house and I'll be posting pictures of my room all decorated in the next couple of days.

High Five For Friday!

Happy Friday bloggers!  My busy August continues, moving day is tomorrow! I have been completely preoccupied with everything that I didn't even realize today was Friday, as soon as I remembered I figured I better take a break from packing to write my H54F post since I haven't linked up in a couple of weeks.
1.  After getting home from Washington I FINALLY got to see my BFF Miranda, I haven't seen her all summer so we drove down to her new house, not far from my new place in San Diego, and I spent the weekend with her.  We got frozen yogurt because for whatever reason I have been obsessed with frozen yogurt lately, I think it's the heat.  Then someone (me) thought it would be a good idea to watch "P.S. I Love You" and take a tequila shot every time she got a letter.  But hey, what the hell are nights with your best friends for if not for drinking and watching rom coms?

1.5.  Yes, I have added a 1.5 to this H54F.  After staying up drinking and eating pizza we woke up late and got some Chinese food and Starbucks for our ride back to my parent's house an hour away.  Unfortunately So Cal is having major weather issues lately so we drove through the storm of the century that day.  We literally saw trees on fire after being struck by lighting on the side of the road.  Thank god we had Starbucks.

2.  I had my transfer orientation at SDSU on Monday.  The concept is exciting but the day was far too long and extremely hot.  Upside? They served really good chicken salad wraps for lunch.  Transfers are the last to register for whatever reason so I didn't get my first choice classes by my shedule doesn't look too bad.  I'm taking French 1, (which I'm slightly dreading, someone please tell me French isn't that hard) Design 1, Art History from 1945-present, and an upper division Anthropology class.  Everything sounds pretty interesting, I'm just thrilled up done with my lower division minus the language.

3.  I found decorative pillows for cheap at Bed Bath and Beyond and Anna's Linens!  Score!  I have been looking for reasonably prices throw pillows everywhere and for whatever reason our world thinks its acceptable for someone to sell a pillow for $40.  Do people really spend that much on a small pillow? Seriously people?  Anyhow, I'm pretty excited about my finds.  I'm still in search of a smaller, oblong pillow to go in front and completely my bed but that can wait.

4.  My new phone background!  I'm kind of in love with it.  Anyone who knows me knows how obsessed I am with the little mermaid.

5.  Yesterday I got to see some of my girlfriends before I move.  We had coffee in the morning and because all my mugs are packed this is what I drank my coffee from.  Then we got lunch (I got frozen yogurt again) and we watched some Shark Week.

This last week here has been busy but I've loved it.  I especially owe a thanks to Miranda for helping me clean out and pack my entire closet, Lord knows that was an ordeal.  This time tomorrow I'll be all moved into my new house and in about a week a start school again.  So wish me luck and I start a new chapter and happy Friday!

Let's Catch Up: Washington

I would first like to start off this post by saying that I am in fact alive.  Sorry for the absence last week but as I said, I was in Washington on vacation and had no internet where I was staying.  I know I said I would try to stop by a Starbucks or something and write a post or two but I'm going to be completely honest, it was kind of great just relaxing and exploring Seattle and Vancouver.

I had a great week in Washington, perfect way to end my summer since I move on Friday (dear god I have so much to do).  But, leaving packing aside once again I thought I would share some things I did on my trip.

List of awesome things I did on vacation:

  • Made friends with our neighbor's black lab and springer spaniel, Angelo and Winston.
  • Drank a lot of beer and ate an ungodly amount of fish and chips.
  • Got lost in Vancouver.
  • Got coffee at the original Starbucks.
  • Bought a Deadliest Catch sweatshirt.
  • Saw the Wizard from The Deadliest Catch.
  • Finally saw The Dark Night Rises.
  • Collected shells that I can hopefully use for a DIY project.
  • And the best part? I did NOT have to sit home in Southern California during the biggest heat wave in years.  I spent my time in 60-80 degree weather.

I hope all of your have been having a great summer.  This week is pretty exciting for me because 1. I'm moving on Friday and 2. It's Shark Week.  I've got a massive pile of things to get done including some DIYs and crafts so I will be back blogging full time I hope!

Goodbye For a Week

Hello bloggers! I am currently in the air port waiting for my flight to SEATTLE!  I sure I have mentioned that I will limited to no internet access while I am in Washington so I just wanted to take this time to stop by and say hello.  I know I have not been extremely present the past few weeks but I have been quite busy with packing and some personal things.  I think once I move and get settled into my house in San Diego things will definitely calm down and I'll be back to blogging full time.

I am going to try to take some down time in Washington to find a Starbucks so I can hopefully have some internet and post at least once this week.  For now, this is what I have been up too on this very busy morning...

Getting ready this morning was not fun. I don't pack light obviously.

In & Out lunch with my family before we leave California for a week. Seems appropriate.

Long Beach is the smallest, weirdest airport I have have flown out of. 4Nbsp;It took me ten minutes to go through security.  If you're used to flying out of LAX, you know what I mean.

Hope you are all having a wonderful week. Remember to enjoy your summer, it's almost over :(
