So, I haven't posted a recipe in a while which is a shame because I have a ton! Especially cupcake recipes, I actually went through a phase where I made a different cupcake every week just to try new recipes. My family and friends hated/loved how many cupcakes I was feeding them. Anyhow, I've made this recipe a few times for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, the cinnamon and spice flavors make it perfect for the holidays and come on, who doesn't love churros?

Becoming a Woman: The Story of a Headboard
Well guys, it happened, I am officially a woman; I have a headboard! A few months back I shared a post about my longing for a headboard, you can find it here. I knew I wanted a rustic style, DIY headboard but I had a couple different ideas. I finally settled on this being my inspiration...
I didn't have a pallet big enough for my bed so I simply sent this picture to my craftsman (my father) and he built it for me. I would have loved to do the staining myself but I wasn't able to make time in my schedule to drive up to Riverside and do it. But, the important thing is that I have a head board, see...
Reed the deer loves it.

Chevron Fail
This summer when I was spending time at my parent's house before the move I decided to to a couple of DIY projects for the new house. One of them was revamping a cork board. I had seen a few things I liked on Pinterest and thought it might be fun to do a chevron pattern on the cork part and paint the frame. Okay, let me just tell you, I know that chevron is all the rage but I had never actually attempted to draw it out and for some reason I found it a lot harder then it probably should have been. First off, let me just say I failed geometry in high school, angles are not my thing. Secondly, Rose Art cork boards are cheap for a reason, the cork on the top layer comes off very easily when pulling off painters tape. Anyhow, everyone has their DIY fails so I thought I would share mine.

Crooked chevron pattern with some missing paint and cork.
It's really not all that bad. The righthand side is obviously where it is most noticeable but I figured it's a cork board, things will be pinned to it and it'll be covered up half the time. Plus isn't perfection overrated anyway?
But honestly, if anyone has any chevron pattern tips that may make my life easier in the future that would be awesome.

Catching up After the Move
So, long absences are a trend for me on my blog and I am through apologizing for them. I wish had I had the same disciple that so many other bloggers who write everyday or a couple of time a week do, but I do not. Instead I'll just have to catch you all up on what I did in-between writing. First of all, as I had been saying, I did in fact move. My new place feels so much more like home than my old one; although there will always be a certain bit of nostalgia that I hold with that old house, it was my first place away from home besides a dorm room. While we all know renting in your 20's is far from perfect I am happy to say that I am moving up.
I'll try and post a mini room tour later on. Also look foward to a post about how I revamped an old TV tray and made it into a cute side table (right) as well as a post about my new friend Reed the Deer.

Besides moving, I have also been working and I started school once again. I am happy to report I am taking two classes for my major instead of just a ton of transfer catch up classes, hopefully that means I won't want to kill myself this semester. In the span of two months I have also gotten new glasses, finally visited the San Diego art museum in Balboa Park, watched the entirety of Friday Night Lights, (I recommend it) started looking for a second job, and bought a candle the smells like cinnamon donuts. Pretty sure those are all of the important things that have happened.

4th of July Weekend
This past weekend was the 4th of July, as I am sure you are all aware. This is my first full summer living her in San Diego which is pretty cool. San Diego is obviously a pretty big city with a lot to do and it's a pretty big tourist spot in the summer. I always wondered what it would be like to live in a popular city where people would come from out of town to vacation, now that I do live in one I can say that it's pretty awesome. I love San Diego; I would love to live in other places just because I want to experience new things but right now I am loving where I am at. While I do spend plenty of days inside watching TV and such just like any other person it is nice to live in a place where there is no shortage of things to do; not to mention the beach is about ten minutes away from my house. I have been trying my best on my limited budget to take advantage of the many things to do hear in SD and 4th of July weekend is probably the time that I had the most success with this.
On 4th of July day Arpi and I woke up and drove down to Ocean Beach which of course was packed. So packed that we actually almost just left because we could not find parking. We ended up finding a spot pretty far and just walking which was fine, it was a nice day and there were tons of people walking around in the area and BBQing and having parties. After laying out for a couple of hours down there we had dinner at Fashion Valley mall and then headed towards downtown and Seaport Village for San Diego's famous fireworks show that can be seen from several spots in the city. We ended up staking out a perfect spot on the Broadway pier near all the Navy ships and watched the show with about a million other people, honestly I'm surprised we were able to park at both the beach and downtown for the show that day, we definitely got lucky.

This is was in someone's front year in Ocean Beach, I obviously was not tall enough to reach the hole.
Our view of some of the buildings in downtown from the pier.
Waiting for the show to start
The USS Midway was all decked out in red, white, and blue.
Fireworks went off on three different boats in the harbor, we could always see the fireworks show from Sea World from where we were. You may know this show after it was in the news last year for ALL of their fireworks going off at the same time, that did not happen this year, thank god.
That Saturday my family came down to SD to spend the day at Sea World. We went for a little but but because it was the holiday weekend it was obviously packed so we didn't stay for too long. We ended up going to Seaport Village and walking around and then going to dinner near my house afterwards.

Hope you all had a great holiday weekend as well. This was kind of my last ho-rah since my job started this week. Yes my friends I did finally find a job; in retail at my local mall, YAY FINALLY! I'll be busy the next couple of weeks working and MOVING! I'm staying local just moving to a new little townhouse with Arpi and another roommate. I've got a few DIYs for the new house and I'll be sure and blog about the move.

DIY Painted Jars
I hope everyone had a lovely 4th of July weekend, I'll post about mine soon but first, crafting! Last weekend while at my parent's house I got this urge to craft. I really haven't in a while but since I am moving again in a month I have been having this overwhelming urge again to craft and make things for the new house. My mom decided to feed my jar fetish and bought me a three pack of small jars at the dollar store. Of course I already have every size and shape of jar out there, but, despite seeing countless tutorials on Pinterest and other blogs I have not yet tried out the whole painted jar thing. Since these were only a dollar I decided to give it a go.
The first thing that I learned about painting the inside of a jar is try not to look at the inside while doing it, the outside is what you are going to see so concentrate on how it looks from that angle.
The second thing I learned is to be very liberal with the amount of paint you put in that jar. If you use little paint you are going to be able to notice, especially if you hold the jar up to the sun. Because of this i decided to do several coats.
Besides those two things, there really are not rules. I did mine by basically blotting the inside with a paint brush although I've seen a few people that put a drop inside the jar and swirl it around. I cannot attest for that method but I can attest to the brush and blot method; mine turned out pretty cute I think...
